PQA's Mission

To improve the quality of medication management and use across healthcare settings with the goal of improving patients' health through a collaborative process to develop and implement performance measures and recognize examples of exceptional pharmacy quality.

 

Two PQA Measures Submitted to the National Quality Forum (NQF) Patient Safety Project

PQA has submitted two measures in response to the National Quality Forum's (NQF) request for Patient Safety measures:  the Antipsychotic Use in Children Under 5 Years Old measure which was endorsed by PQA's membership at the 2013 Annual Meeting and Proportion of Days Covered - Three Rates, for endorsement maintenance through the NQF Patient Safety project.


2014 PQA Workgroups, Task Forces, and Panels

PQA is offering six measure development workgroups and will also convene four appointed task floorces or panels.  PQA member organizations assigned representatives to workgroups in January and workgroup meetings begin in February. 


PQA Specialty Pharmacy Measures Task Force 

PQA is convening a Specialty Pharmacy Measures Task Force, whose charge is to identify and develop high priority measures to assess quality related to patients' use of specialty pharmacy medications and services.


February Quality Forum Lecture Series

Opportunities and Challenges with Integrating Pharmacists in Team-based Care Models

February's Quality Forum Lecture will be presented by Marie Smith, the Henry A. Palmer Endowed Professorship of Community Pharmacy Practice and Assistant Dean for Practice and Public Policy Partnerships at the University of Connecticut, School of Pharmacy.  The Quality Forum will address interdisciplinary team-based care opportunities and challenges involved in pharmacist integration that need to be negotiated in innovative practices and health care organizations.  This lecture will be held on February 27, 2014 at 1 p.m. (ET)

PQA's Membership Passes Revisions to Bylaws:
Paves the Way to Provide Greater Opportunities for Engagement and Leadership Roles

PQA opened up the 2014 year with an electronic vote of the full membership to make several changes to the PQA Bylaws.  PQA is pleased with the results of the electronic voting process.  Eighty-nine members voted in favor of the proposed changes, with no member voting against the proposed changes. Nearly 65% of the PQA membership cast their electronic vote, and we are most appreciative of the high level of engagement of PQA's members.  


2013 PQA Workgroup Wrap-Up 

Seven measure concepts were developed and voted by workgroup members to move forward in the measure development process to be considered by the Quality Metrics Expert Panel.


Hot off the Press:  Connections to Key Quality Publications

Hot Off the Press seeks to connect the reader to the most relevant and recent trials, reviews and commentaries related to health care quality with a focus on medication- and pharmacy-related topics.


PQA "On the Road"

The PQA staff members participate in a number of formal committees and panels and also attend and present at a diverse array of healthcare conferences.  Information on some of the more notable staff activities is presented for your review.


PQA Ambassador Program Connects Quality Mission to Pharmacy Schools

PQA has created the Ambassador Program beginning in February 2014.  Ambassadors will serve as "quality champions" at each school of pharmacy.
