PQA's Mission
To improve the quality of medication management and use across healthcare settings with the goal of improving patients' health through a collaborative process to develop and implement performance measures and recognize examples of exceptional pharmacy quality.

The final 2015 Quality Rating System (QRS) Beta Test measure set will apply to the Qualified Health Plans (QHPs) offered in the Health Insurance Marketplaces in 2014. CMS has posted the final 2015 QRS and QHP Enrollee Survey technical guidance and technical specifications that the QHP issuers will need to collect and submit QRS measure data to CMS. The measure set includes PQA's measures of medication adherence, specifically Proportion of Days Covered.


On September 3, 2014 CMS released their annual update on Star Rating trends.  Overall, plan performance has improved and CMS is looking to adjust thresholds commensurately.

PQA is seeking a Licensing Consultant to design and implement a strategy focused on licensing PQA's intellectual property, including both performance measures and quality improvement indicators to various healthcare organizations, both non-profit and for-profit entities, as well as state and federal government organizations.

PQA Quality Forum Lecture Series:  An Update on Medicare Part D Performance Measures
Dr. David Nau, President, Pharmacy Quality Solutions, will provide an overview of the Medicare Part D performance measurement system including the Plan Ratings and display measures. He will also describe changes to the Plan Ratings for Contract Year 2015 and answer questions from the audience. This lecture is open to PQA members and 2014 workgroup appointees only and will take place October 30, 2014 from 1-2 PM (Eastern).  

PQA Webinar Series on Understanding the Changing Healthcare Landscape and its Impact on Pharmaceutical Management

On November 18th from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (Eastern Time), PQA will offer a webinar entitled, "Effectively Managing Transitions of Care to Effectively Reduce Hospital Readmissions".

PQA will host the Leadership Summit on November 12, 2014 at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington, DC.  PQA Board members, executives from member companies and PQA staff will come together around this year's theme "Collaborating for Better Patient Care:  Integrating Medication Use Measures into Value-Based Systems" and share thoughts and ideas to help PQA solidify the plans and initiatives for the coming year.  (By invitation only)

PQA's Annual Meeting & Best Practices Forum will take place back at the Renaissance Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA just minutes from Reagan National Airport. This is a meeting you will not want to miss as PQA will be celebrating its 10th anniversary and will mark it with special events throughout the meeting.

EPIQ is now available on the PQA website, featuring 26 online modules with corresponding training videos, which serve as a source of complimentary continuing education (CE) credit for pharmacists. Session materials may also be downloaded in full for live CE use or professional development training.

PQA Workgroup, Panel, and Task Force Update

PQA Workgroups, Panels, and Task Forces meet by teleconference each month to meet their specific objectives. Participants contribute their expertise and ideas to the discussion and work towards consensus-based agreement on workgroup deliverables. A summary of the activities and discussion is provided bimonthly in the Workgroup, Panel, and Task Force Update.

PQA member, The Kroger Company, was selected as the 2014 Pinnacle Award Recipient in the category of Group Practice-Health System-Corporation for its outstanding achievements in providing a holistic, personalized, and quality health experiences to its patients.

Next-Generation Pharmacist Rising Star Award Winner Samuel Stolpe

PQA's Director of Quality Strategies, Samuel Stolpe, PharmD, was presented with a Next-Generation Pharmacist Award in the category of Rising Star at a special awards event on Sunday, August 24th in Boston, Massachusetts.

PQA's Inaugural Fellow Lands New Post at Humana

PQA's inaugural fellow, Laurin Dixon, PharmD, finished out her fellowship on July 25th and headed to Louisville, Kentucky where she accepted a new post as Program Manager of Pharmacy Quality and Stars Maximization for Humana.

PQA Launches Experiential Rotation Program for Fourth Year PharmD Students

In September 2014, PQA hosted its first Doctor of Pharmacy student, Paras Patel, a PharmD Candidate from the College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a four-week experiential rotation in association management with an emphasis on quality.

Hot Off the Press seeks to connect the reader to the most relevant and recent trials, reviews and commentaries related to health care quality with a focus on medication- and pharmacy-related topics.
