PQA is expanding its team as it heads into 2015 with two new staff positions that are available immediately: Assistant Director/Director, Research & Analytics and Assistant Director/Director, Performance Measurement.
PQA to Refine its Metrics Development Processes in 2015
In 2015, PQA will modify the process used to develop performance measures and quality improvement indicators. Recently, PQA convened an ad hoc Measure Advisement Group, with the objectives of: evaluating where we have been, where we are currently, and where we need to move in order to continue to develop measures efficiently and effectively (i.e., re-structuring efforts); identifying medication use measure concepts that address important gaps; and focusing on an implementation strategy that parallels the development of the measures themselves.
PQA Endorses New Performance Measure and Receives NQF Endorsement on Two Additional Measures
In November, PQA membership endorsed a new performance measure, Statin Use in Persons with Diabetes. Additionally, NQF endorsed two PQA measures: Proportion of Days Covered (PDC): 3 Rates by Therapeutic Category and Antipsychotic Use in Children Under 5 Years Old.
PQA submitted its comments to CMS on December 17th and recognized CMS' efforts through multiple notices during the year to seek comments and feedback related to the Star Measures program within Medicare. PQA also provided its membership with a summary of the sections of the R4C that pertained to PQA measures and measure development efforts.
From December 17 - 23rd, PQA membership will be given the opportunity to vote on whether or not to retire the measure, Diabetes: Appropriate Treatment of Hypertension.
